BMW Z1 RLE Alpina – 1990
Presented by Francorchamps Motors Collection
Francorchamps Motors Collection is pleased to offer for sale this 1990 BMW Z1 RLE Alpina.
The Model
The BMW Z1 holds a unique place in BMW’s history. Conceived as a true rolling laboratory, it embodies a bold vision of the modern roadster, combining avant-garde design, innovative engineering solutions, and authentic driving pleasure. Produced in limited numbers between 1989 and 1991, the Z1 is particularly renowned for its bespoke chassis and vertically retractable doors features that have become iconic signatures of the model. Among these rare examples, certain Z1s benefited from the expertise of Alpina, taking the concept even further. The BMW Z1 Alpina RLE features a specific mechanical preparation developed in keeping with the balance and refinement characteristic of the brand. Its 2.7-liter inline six-cylinder engine received internal upgrades and optimized engine management, increasing output to approximately 200 horsepower, with noticeably enhanced torque. This configuration delivers performance superior to that of the standard Z1. Produced in just 66 units, the Z1 Alpina RLE is today one of the most exclusive and sought-after variants of the Z1.
The Car Offered
The example offered today is Z1 Alpina RLE no. 30 of 66, assembled in 1990, delivered new in Germany and first registered in 1996. Presented in the rare Top Red color, a configuration produced in only 13 examples, it shows just 15,980 km. Previously owned by a single owner, it joined a famous automotive group in 2017. This example stands out for its particularly rigorous history, marked by a long period of preservation with extremely limited use, followed by recommissioning accompanied by comprehensive inspections and regular preventive maintenance. The continuous mileage record and supporting documentation confirm careful and occasional use. Strictly matching numbers, preserved in remarkable condition, and accompanied by a complete historical file including documentation, invoices, records, and original accessories, this BMW Z1 Alpina RLE represents a reference-grade example. It participated in and won First Prize at the FIVA Concourse of Elegance in the “Best Youngtimer” category at Techno Classica in 2017.
